Meg Cabot Books to Movies News!

March 5, 2010

Good news fans of New York Times bestselling author Meg Cabot, best known for her series The Princess Diaries of which the Disney movies of the same name are based off of, Wednesday saw Meg updating her blog/official website (www.MegCabot.com) with movie news about two of my favorite series Avalon High and The Mediator. We hadn’t heard anything about these series’ conversion to the big screen lately so Meg thought she’d let us know where they stood.

She included the current press release on Avalon High which I’ve copy and pasted from her blog for your convenience

Avalon HighScheduled for a late fall 2010 premiere, this Disney Channel Original Movie, based on the popular novel by Meg Cabot, follows Allie who, after transferring to Avalon High, is shocked to discover that her new classmates are reincarnations of King Arthur and his Court. The deeper Allie searches these interesting parallels between the past and the present, the more sure she is that her school is a contemporary Camelot, and it’s up to her to solve the mystery before the notorious traitor Mordred wins again.

As Meg pointed out in her book (And the 3 part manga continuation) the heroine’s name was Ellie but she said it may have been a misprint. I hope so as Ellie’s name being Ellie is mildly important to the plot. (Everyone’s names are fairly important when it comes to the Camelot comparisons.) Disney did a decent job converting The Princess Diaries into a movie (Sequel not withstanding as while it was good it had nothing to do with the books really.) so I feel fairly confident about this one. Meg hinted about another change that would be happening (Not a musical sadly.) but isn’t saying much. She has little to no control over the movie but her support is always nice to have. No casting news as of yet sadly.

Now on to Mediator! All you UK fans are in for a treat because the books are being rereleased with some GORGEOUS covers. I think this one’s my favorite of the 3 (Their being released as sets)

The movie is still ON which is awesome. I love the Mediator, its like Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Ghostbusters/The Brady Bunch all rolled into one awesome thing. (Pardon my weird metaphor but it DOES vaguely resemble The Brady Bunch what with her mom marrying a guy with 3 sons, Ghostbusters as it’s all about ghosts and Buffy in terms of characters. Don’t belive me? Watch Buffy and you’ll see. Buffy is Suze, Father Dom is Giles, Jesse is Angel, Cici & Adam are Willow & Xander. I feel confident you’ll see what I’m talking about and plus Meg’s a Buffy fan so it makes sense. Meg’s actually the reason I watched Buffy and became a geek but that’s a long story and I’ve wandered away from my point again.)

It looks like the script is in the works so cross your fingers!!!!!!!!!! For more info click here-http://megcabot.com/mediator/index.php

What’s that you ask? Isn’t another one of Meg’s books being turned into a movie? Why yes, Queen of Babble is still slated to become a movie & Kristen Bell (Veronica Mars, Fanboys & most recently When in Rome) is still rumored to be staring in it. That’s all I know. All-American Girl was also optioned for film but I haven’t heard anything on that one. Jinx and the first Heather Wells book ‘Size 12 is not Fat’ were optioned by ABC Family as series so I’ll be keeping an ear out for those. How to Be Popular was optioned by MTV.

In the mean time she has two upcoming book releases-Allie Finkle #5 Glitter Girls and the Great Fake Out comes out on the 16th in the USA followed by Runaway (Airhead 3/3) in April.
