The Long Way Home, Issue 1 Part 1 the Super Cool Motion Comic

July 20, 2010

So it’s another awesome week to be a nerd, a Dollhouse comic, San Diego Comic Con starts this week, and now Buffy the Vampire Slayer season 8 goes motion. For $0.99 (if you don’t mind SD otherwise you gotta shell out another buck for HD) you too can buy the very first episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Season 8 in all it’s motion glory.

Now I don’t know about you but I’d never seen a motion comic before 15 mins ago so I wasn’t really sure what to expect. Sure I love Scooby-Doo and have seen bits and pieces of South Park & Sponge Bob but those are cartoons, so what the hell’s a motion comic? Well it’s pretty much the halfway point between comics and cartoons. There’s still panel usage, dialog boxs for Buffy’s inner monologes (even thou they’re spoken) but while ‘animated’ it’s not continueous motion. Think lowbudget animation that still packs a mean punch.

So what made this totally awesome? Well theme song? Still intacted and was accompanied by ‘Twice the Fool’ which was written for ‘Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered’ from season 2 a.k.a. the Valentine’s Day episode and some cool rock score. The voices while not original cast were very well done and dialog, plot, artwork, excetera were all totally true to The Long Way Home part 1.

It was perfect and I loved it. I’ve fallen in love with season 8 all over again and can’t wait for the next episode even thou I already know what’s going to happen. (Willow!) If you’re still not convined iTunes has the trailer available for free now with fixed sound. (It sounded way bad earlier, I kid you not. Buffy sounded like a guy.) So how long is this episode? How long does it take to act out the events of a single comic book? Well if you count the end credits (that featured a comic book plug for Buffy and Dark Horse) it’s under 12 minutes. So I’m shelling out $0.99 for 11 1/2 minutes of entertainment you say?

You’d do it for The Guild wouldn’t you? That’s what I thought.

You can get a season pass for the whole season in SD for under $15 bucks which is a good price because you know the DVD that’s coming out later will be at least $20. HD will cost you more and I don’t know about Amazon but I’ll bet they have something similar.

So when does the next episode come out? IDK. I’m going to assume next week but we’ll have to wait and see.

So what did you think of Buffy season 8 the motion comic?
