The Big Bang Theory Will Survive 2012

January 13, 2011

It’s official Big Bang Theory fans, we’re getting a 5th season! And a 6th! And a 7th! Sheldon has won. The world is under his command, at least the big wigs at CBS are. CBS is so happy with TBBT’s accomplishments these past few years they felt confident that this would be a positive investment for them, and I kind of agree with them. After 3 solid years in the Monday night time slot is was transferred to the much deserved and far more competitive Thursday night time slot opposite well established and rating high shows like The Vampire Diaries and Bones. (How competitive are Thursday nights on network tv you ask? In fall 2 new shows, My Generation and Lone Star, were canceled after only airing 2 episodes because their ratings were so low. They were in the Thursday night time slot.) Not only did The Big Bang Theory maintain its audience, it grew! And in ’10 it won a People’s Choice Award for Favorite Tv Comedy and Jim Parson (Dr. Sheldon Cooper) won an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series after losing out on it last year in addition to being nominated in 4 other categories in ’10. This year it’s nominated for 2 Golden Globes in Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy and Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy. Hey Bill Prady I think the universe is trying to tell you that we all want a musical episode of TBBT!

Amid all those awards and nominations there’s the critical praise, audience love, it made sense to give it an early renewal. But 3! I’m still trying to wrap my head around it. It was big news last year when Fox renewed Glee for a 3rd season before season 2 had even started production but this is even more ground breaking. This could go either way. Good: More planning and season to season arches can be planned along with nerve raking cliffhangers like the one in season 2. (I personally thought that the gang going on an Arctic expedition over hiatus and Penny being this close to admitting her feelings for Lenard very stressful.) Bad: It might out live its stay much like How I Met Your Mother is starting to or so I’m told. (Still waiting for you to send me season 5 Netflix.) Hopefully the advance notice will help them prepare to keep us laughing and geekily entertained those full 3 years. I have faith in Sheldon. Maybe by the end he’ll turn into a real boy! (Insert sarcasm sign.)

All in all CBS, we rather like you. You’ve been good to us over the years and it appears you will continue to do so. We will never have this problem with you.  Thanks Elmomoomintoog And while we’re on the subject of Firefly (sniffle)… Posted by IrishFireflyFan And just for the heck of it and because all the posts I’ve been writing and scheduling lately have had 3 videos in them-  Posted by katkaborn If these clips don’t make you want to watch TBBT then obviously you are a Terminator bent on destroying the world.
