Summing Up Tuesday

March 9, 2011

Yesterday was kind of a big day yesterday in a bunch of little awesome news tidbits so I thought I’d wait until today to sum it all up. There’s something for everyone in here so scroll on down and find a little piece of awesome that will make your day.

Comics-

News straight from the Emerald City itself confirmed that Dark Horse plans on having a Buffy: Season 10. (I always knew she had what it takes to enter the double-digit seasons) It was also confirmed that the first issue of season 9 is currently scheduled to release during the early weeks of September and the first issue of Angel’s new season will drop around the end of August. Buffyfest is also reporting that Buffy’s 9th season will be about half the length of season 8 and is expected to last 2 years with roughly 25 issues of both Buffy and Angel titles. It will be interesting to see what Dark Horse does now that they have total control over all of Joss’ work, the characters of Angel have never really mixed with Buffy so an epic colliding of worlds is sure to happen. (Still waiting for a Fray/Serenity crossover.)

Tv-

Contrary to what I’d been predicting (in my head thankfully) Melissa Joan Hart & Joey Lawrence’s ABCFamily comedy Melissa & Joey will return on Wednesday, June 29th at 8/7c according to Joey himself via his official twitter account. Seeing as it premiered the week after Pretty Little Liar’s summer finale I was hoping it would start-up again after the spring finale but I’m no tv executive, I just watch tv instead of marketing it. The June return will mark the beginning of the 2nd half of the show’s first season.

(Technically this was monday but i didn’t find out about it until Tuesday) ABCFamily also announced the summer premiere of several shows that have me curious though I’m still not sure if I’ll watch, too early in the game plus no official promos have been released to my knowledge. These shows are: Switched at Birth, a 1 hr drama on you guessed it, two girls who were accidentally switched while they were newborns. (In other words the story of Mac’s life but different because sadly this is not a Veronica Mars spin-off.) SAB will premier Mon, June 6th at 9/8c hopefully this is the upcoming show that features Lucas Grabeel (It’s hard to keep all the unmarked promo pictures/casts straight). Also on Monday but later on in August (15th) at 9/8c The Lying Game based on Sara Shepard’s new book series, a 1 hr drama involving lies, twins, murder and assuming the other twin’s identity. (The book is on my TBR list so I’m just guessing from the blurb on Amazon.) Pretty Little Liars will make its season two premier on Tuesday, June 14th at 8/7c.

Music-

Goodbye Lullaby, Avril Lavigne’s 4th studio album was finally released yesterday and from what I’ve heard of it, long time fans need not worry. Avril infused her newer happy girl power pop style with some of her older mellow and meaningful style making it an album well worth the wait. The deluxe edition on iTunes features several bonus tracks worth checking out including a cover of Joan Jett’s ‘Bad Reputation’ that’s so Avril Lavigne it’s a wonder this cover didn’t happen earlier, an acoustic version of ‘What the Hell’ that’s still as fabulous and girl power infused as the original version and an extended version of ‘Alice’ the track she did for ‘Almost Alice’ a collection of songs based on Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland.

Internet-

Help Nathan Buy Firefly has finally been shut down and as someone on twitter said “Now we can go back to our Bangel/Spuffy wars.” <– Priority. Sorry if you thought this was your one way ticket to getting more Firefly folks but as no one involved in Firefly or any of Joss' usual cohorts were involved it had scam written on it from the start. Go back to discussing the likelihood of Wash coming back to life. (It could happen.) I hope any money you may have donated gets returned to you or donated to a worthy charity.

Tours-

Meg Cabot updated her blog the other day and hinted about some tours/signings she’ll be making soon (early summer) to promote her upcoming releases Abandoned (1st in a new paranormal YA trilogy) and Overbite (the Insatiable sequel, it has vampires in it, true story). If the stars align this summer there may even be a book signing in my future. *crosses fingers* Nothing has been officially posted on her website yet but she talks about them a little bit in her latest blog post over at http://www.megcabot.com.
